What is odour neutralization?

Bad smells are unpleasant. People react strongly to smells. Not just in the moment, but even later. Fragrances can evoke memories. A certain smell, such as perfume, can make us think of someone. That's how strongly humans react to smells. You can therefore imagine how severe the reaction to a bad smell can be. When an office stinks, we don't want to work in this space anymore. When a restaurant stinks, it ruins our enjoyment of eating. In fact, we may never want to eat at a stinky restaurant again. It underlines the importance of tackling such odors.

Some scents can be addressed. Unfortunately, there are also smells where the causes cannot be eliminated. Fortunately, there is another solution: neutralizing the bad smell. Neutralizing bad smells ensures that the smell is masked. A neutral fragrance environment is created, so that the unwanted odors can be largely or even completely eliminated. Through a chemical reaction, the odorous molecules are converted into non-odorous molecules. Although a foul smell may still be present, we ensure that these molecules cannot be detected by the human nose. A neutral perception is the end result when we neutralize an odor.

Why neutralize the smell?

With some bad smells, it's a matter of discovering the source. Then, you can fix the problem. But there are also bad odors where the source cannot simply be removed or that are more permanent. In that case, neutralizing the smell is the best solution. Here, a different scent is spread using a dispenser. The combination of the fragrances is interpreted by our brain as an improvement. By means of chemical reactions, the odour molecule is modified so that we no longer smell the unpleasant smell. This is the best solution for a continuous source of bad odours.
